Unique Butler’s Desk in Mahogany and Bird’s Eye Maple
Made and signed by Martin Weaver in March 1857, this beautiful combination of Bird’s Eye Maple and Mahogany stands taller than a writing desk and is therefore called a slant top butler’s desk. Three drawers of increasing size are designed to hold clothing and other personal effects. All drawers are dovetailed and work well. Original Empire style handles were replaced with these ornate Victorian pulls of stamped brass sometime during its history. Porcelain pulls on the secretary drawers have been replaced with identical new pulls. Weaver did a masterful job with book matched mahogany veneer, which is original and without repair. The inside writing lid appears t be cherry. More photos are available. Please contact with questions.
